Beef Barbacoa Stuffed Yorkies Miller and Carter

Manny and I have never been to a Miller & Carter Steakhouse before so when we were invited to visit a new restaurant in Grantham, it's safe to say we were VERY excited.

About Miller & Carter

Miller & Carter Steakhouse are renowned for their incredible steaks and have been given plenty a good review. Their website notes that 'sourcing, preparing and serving great steak is what we do. Day in, day out. It's our profession but it's also our obsession. Everything we've done so far and everything we'll do in the future is for the love of steak.'

Our experience…

As soon as we walked in, we were wowed by the stunning, classic decor of the restaurant and its impressive size. It's filled with luscious leather seats, spectacular mirrors and beautiful lighting.

The Important Bit: The Food

The menu is wonderful. Seriously. Even the actual menu itself has headings in gold foil and the selection of choices is marvellous. There was almost too much choice, and it took a while for us to decide what we wanted to order.

Starters

Miller & Carter offer a lunch menu where you can get 2 courses for £10.95 or 3 for £13.95. Unlike other restaurants that tend to feature the most simple (and cheap) dishes on set menus like this, the lunch menu here has so many great choices. Manny opted for the three courses, and for his starter, chose the Baked Cheddar Mushrooms: Button mushrooms in a creamy cheddar and spinach sauce, served with toasted artisan bread. The dish was super cheesy and the portion size was generous, he really enjoyed it.

I decided not to go with the set menu as I fancied a couple of dishes that weren't an option. For starter I chose the Beef Barbacoa Stuffed Yorkies: served with crispy onion loaf, aged Cheddar cheese and British beef dripping sauce. This dish was so good! Not only did it look super cute and yummy, but the mix of flavours also worked incredibly well together. Amazing.

Main Course

For main course, Manny opted for a Pulled Beef Barbacoa Flatbread: An oven-baked flatbread topped with barbacoa pulled beef, British beef dripping sauce, crispy onion loaf & crumbled Stilton. Manny really enjoyed this as a 'healthy' option to eat instead of a more traditional pizza and he particularly liked the onion loaf as a topping and commented that the crumbled stilton was an excellent addition. He wolfed this down in no time at all!

I chose Sirloin steak which came with onion loaf, herby potatoes and cracked peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the accompanying sides were all delicious. The peppercorn sauce was particularly yummy and had a great kick to it that's often missing in sauces that we have tried elsewhere.

We also decided to order a side of the mac n cheese and we were so glad we did. I am always apprehensive about ordering mac n cheese at restaurants because I feel like it's one of those dishes that is never as good as how you (or your mum) makes it at home! However, this surpassed our expectations and was super cheesy and delicious with a lovely crispy top.

Dessert

I definitely did not have any room for dessert but Manny chose the Caramel Apple Crumble Tart with custard. The tart was more like an apple crumble surrounded by a cake and was absolutely delicious. The caramel sauce went perfectly! The only regret he had was choosing custard over vanilla ice cream because the custard and the caramel sauce didn't work that well together.

What we thought

The food was seriously good and the service was excellent. The only thing that I would say is that I was slightly disappointed with my mojito, as it was more like a glass of ice than anything else. However, I also tried the 'Absolutini' cocktail which you shake and serve yourself and that was delightful. Manny also had a mango mocktail which was delicious and not too sweet as mocktails often are.

The great thing about Miller & Carter is that they have restaurants all over the place. You can check out where the closest one to you is here. AND even better, we are running a £50 Miller & Carter voucher giveaway on our Instagram so head over there right now! The giveaway will open from the date that this review is published, and close after a week.
